Art Scene China is one of the premier Chinese art galleries in China, with two venues in Shanghai and one space in Beijing. The Gallery specializes in Chinese contemporary art by both emerging and well-established Chinese artists. Art Scene Warehouse is a part of Art Scene China, located in Shanghai.

Art Scene Warehouse focuses on avant-garde Chinese contemporary paintings, sculpture, photography and installations in Shanghai. Art Scene Warehouse is a big venue: 1,800 square metres, with 4.5 - 6 metres high ceilings. So the Gallery is able to hold large group exhibitions featuring big artworks. For smaller-sized Chinese contemporary artworks for the home environment, the venue Art Scene Classic was established at the back of Art Scene Warehouse. Please see: www.artsceneclassic.com for more information about Art Scene Classic.

Art Scene Warehouse, in its current location, was established in 2003 the 50 Moganshan Road (M50) Suzhou Creek art district of Shanghai. Art Scene Warehouse was one of the first galleries to be established in Moganshan Road, and it is still the largest gallery there and is probably the largest private gallery in Shanghai.

With over 10 years of experience, extensive knowledge of China’s art scene and a strong background in promoting and discovering artists from throughout China, Art Scene gallery has been playing a major role in presenting Chinese artists’ works both nationally and internationally since 1997. Art Scene China has participated in important international art expositions, including Art Cologne, Art Chicago, Art Miami, San Francisco International Art Expo and CIGE. Art Scene China also regularly cooperates with galleries and institutions internationally to exhibit Chinese artworks around the world.

The Chinese Art Prize (CAP) was established by Art Scene in 2005 (origianally called the Dragonair Emerging Chinese Art Awards). The Chinese Art Prize is the first art competition to focus on young, emerging Chinese artists and open to all entries with no fees. The CAP helps to "discover" the next generation of Chinese contemporary artists, as selected by very well-known and respected figures in the art world. This insures that the artists selected are talented. Chinese Art Prize jury members have included: Gerard Goodrow, who was the Director of Art Cologne in Germany (one of the most important art expositions in the world); Daniela Bousso, curator, art critic and director at Paço das Artes, the largest public museum of contemporary art in San Paulo, Brazil; Ami Barak, Curator of “Art for the World (The Expo)” - World Expo Shanghai 2010 & Curator of Art Forum Berlin 2007, Dr Marion Ackerman, Director of the Art Museum of Stuttgart, Germany; Isabelle de Wavrin, Co-Editor-in-Chief of Beaux Arts, the top French art publication; Jeff Kelley, Curator of the Asian Art Museum in California, USA; and well-known Chinese contemporary artist Zhong Biao.

Art Scene is committed to not only promoting Chinese contemporary artists, but also to supporting social programmes. Art Scene China has supported a variety of charities, such as charities benefiting the victims of aids and aids awareness and charities benefiting children and the underprivileged, through donations and holding charity events on-site.

Art Scene Warehouse was also the first gallery (and still one of the very few) to hold an exhibition of Chinese contemporary art to make people more aware of Global Warming, and alerting viewers of what they can do as individuals to help. The exhibition is called Quan Qiu Bian Nuan, and a special website was created for it, calling for Chinese contemporary artists with works related to global warming to participate: www.QuanQiuBianNuan.com.
