A Tribute to Pietro Cascella is motivated by the lasting relevance of that which was his greatest intent as a sculptor: to work at a monumental environmental scale, creating spaces of participation and memory of Mediterranean anthropological legacies and shared civic values. From the monument at Auschwitz, 1967, to the most recent Ara Pacis. The event is curated by Luca Beatrice, Beatrice Buscaroli and Enrico Crispolti.

Kim also shows a way in which photography can be used as a conceptual/abstract form.

This goal was the inspiration for the exhibition which has created its own “new world” on the Certosa Island, where one can admire a glass wall by Shan Shan Sheng reminiscent of the Great Wall of China. Or the minimalist work by Vinicio Momoli, along with a ring 6 meters in diameter made out of resin by Belgian artist Koen Vanmechelen, a reference to the cyclical nature of existence.

Nine prominent Chinese contemporary artists - Zhang Xiaogang, Zhou Chunya, He Duoling, Wang Guangyi, Fang Lijun, Yue Minjun, Zhang Peili, Wu Shanzhuan and Ye Fang - participate in the exhibition. As a tribute to Marco Polo, the participating artists combine elements from the East and West in their interpretations of Italian art, European culture and western civilization. Their work reflects what makes modern China and the modern Oriental.
